Hi Octane Racing was started by Ian Baker in 1999 to fill a void in the market as a reliable wholesale supplier of Japanese performance parts.

This followed 10 years of highest level engineering in both the racing and turbocharger industries Performance Metalcraft - a company started by Ian and that is still running successfully under then long time employee, Leon Sokalski and still turning out the highest quality fabrications in the country.

Projects undertaken along the way included development work for Mazda Australia on the super successful RX7 SP and the MX5 SP, fabrications for multiple Safari and international event winner Bruce Garland and Holden/Isuzu Rally team, development of many Super class Ski boat turbo kits including the Judge and Missile and many championship winning vehicles in all motorsport facets  drag, circuit, speedway and both tarmac and gravel rally.

As the demand for the Japanese performance parts grew so too did the workload and Performance Metalcraft was sold to allow Hi Octane to become the best Japanese performance part supplier in Australia.
